Scenario
You want to install the latest Microsoft Exchange Server service pack on the Microsoft Exchange Server, but the installation fails due to open files caused by the Microsoft Exchange Transport service being started.
Reason
Exclaimer services are dependent upon the Microsoft Exchange Transport service, so when you stop the Microsoft Exchange Transport service, Exclaimer services are also stopped. This causes the service pack upgrade to fail as it cannot start the Microsoft Exchange Transport service without also starting Exclaimer services.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, we recommend:
- Un-install Exclaimer Mail Disclaimers / Signature Manager Exchange Edition prior to the Microsoft Exchange Server service pack upgrade.
This removes the core application and the link to the Transport Service that is causing the issue.
All licensing and configuration data will remain in place during this process.
- Re-install the product once the upgrade is complete. This will re-use the config data that is already present on the server.
