Scenario
You would like to migrate Signature Manager Outlook Edition (and all of its current settings) to another server.
Resolution
If you are moving to a server in the same domain, you can migrate all settings to the new computer. For more information, see Migrating to a server in the same domain.
If you are moving to a server in a different domain, you can only migrate the template files. Policy settings and licenses are tied to the domain. For more information, see Migrating to a server in a different domain.
Migrating to a server in the same domain
Follow the process detailed below to migrate to another server in the same domain:
- On the old server, open the Exclaimer console for the Signature Manager Outlook Edition.
- Select the Export configuration option on the top-right of the console and save the configuration file.
- Copy/move the export file to the new server.
- Install Signature Manager Outlook Edition on the new server and go through the First use wizard, choosing default options on each page.
- When the Exclaimer console opens after installation, select the Import configuration option on the top-right of the console.
- Browse to and select the export file created that you copied/moved in step 3.
- When prompted, select a folder to store the images. You can use any suitable folder that has been configured with the required permissions.
However, we recommend the use of the following folder, as this is pre-configured with all of the required permissions for our software:
C:\ProgramData\Exclaimer Ltd\Signature Manager\Template Library
- The import runs and everything (including all policies, settings, licensing and templates) will be copied over to the new installation.
Migrating to a server in a different domain
Follow the process detailed below to migrate to another server in a different domain:
- On the old server, open the Exclaimer console for the Signature Manager Outlook Edition.
- Since we cannot export all configuration settings, you need to start by exporting any existing templates that you wish to carry over to the new installation:
- From the left-hand panel, select the template library that holds the first template that you wish to migrate, so all available templates for that category are displayed in the middle panel.
- On the content pane, select the first template to be exported. Notice that import and export options are now activated on the toolbar.
- Select export to open the save as window.
- The file name defaults to the name of the selected template and the file type is zip.
A zip file is used because there are multiple parts to a template file - it is not a single document.
- Navigate through the drives and folders to select the required location for the template file.
- Click save to complete the export.
Repeat these steps for all the required templates - you will end up with a set of zip files.
- Copy the template zip files over to the new server.
- Install the Signature Manager Outlook Edition on the new server and go through the First use wizard, choosing required options on each page.
- When the Exclaimer console opens after installation, you can import templates from the copied zip files:
- In the console tree, access the templates branch - notice that some default categories and templates have been added. When importing templates, you must choose a category to import them to, so in this case you can:
- - Create one new category to use when importing all templates, and then (if necessary) sort them into required categories later. This is probably the quickest option.
- - Add as many categories as needed now, to replicate the category structure on the old server.
- - Use one of the default categories and then (if necessary) sort them into required categories later.
- Select a parent category for the first template that you wish to import. Notice that import and export options are now activated on the toolbar.
- Select import to display the open window. Notice that the default file type here is set to .zip.
- Navigate through the drives and folders to select the first template zip file.
- Click open to complete the import and add the template to the template library.
- When asked for a location to store the imported data, please select:
C:\ProgramData\Exclaimer Ltd\Signature Manager\Template Library
- Repeat for all required template zip files.
- Manually recreate required policies and other settings.
